Sbectrwm is one of Wales' most successful language, training and research consultancies. In a short period of time it has established a reputation as one of the country's leading language planning agencies. During this period the company has developed an expertise in project management, training, research and marketing. Sbectrwm, as the name implies, offers a broad range of support to organisations in the public, private and voluntary sectors. Improving quality and making a difference are the key elements which underpin Sbectrwm's vision and values.
Based on the experience of Cefin Campbell - who established the company in 1996 - and other specialist consultants, Sbectrwm is able to provide expert advice and support in a range of fields including language planning, education, health, community development, youth work, tourism, voluntary action and workforce planning.
Cefin Campbell is one of the leading experts in the field of community language planning and bilingual education. He was responsible for establishing the first ever Menter Iaith (Community Language Initiative) in Wales in 1991 and helped set up many others over a period of 15 years. Mentrau Iaith (pl) are community based initiatives that help to develop and extend the use of Welsh as a medium of social and institutional communication. They have become crucial components of the language regeneration process in Wales in recent years. Over 20 Mentrau Iaith have been established in Wales over the last fifteen years.
This pioneering model of community language planning has been adopted by a number of European minority languages in recent years as more language planners realise the importance of community based language intervention programmes . In recent years for example, Cefin Campbell has provided consultative support to Bòrd na Gàidhlig on developing community language initiatives in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.
